Design codes for Brazil?

Design codes for Brazil?

Design codes for Brazil?

(OP)
Hello,

Can anyone tell me if Brazil have their own design standards or do they use IBC?
Also, is it necessary to design for seismic loads there?

Thanks

RE: Design codes for Brazil?

I do not know exactly what general building codes are adopted in Brazil, but for engineered masonry design the ACI 530 is generally used. I have seen many loadbearing masonry apartment building(5 to 22 stories) that were designed with the ACI document. For these building the walls were 6" partially reinforced walls with different strength (f'm) units at various floor levels. - Very sophisticated engineering and construction, especially in Sao Paulo down to Florianopolis area.
