Fire rating of exit door

Fire rating of exit door

Fire rating of exit door

(OP)
How do I find what fire rating is required for a stair exit door to the exterior from a public library? I checked the Ontario building code but so far have not found it (except for a statement saying not less than 45 minutes for exit doors, and not lsss than required in 3.2.2, but I don't see exit doors sepcifically mentioned in 3.2.2), although it must be there somewhere.

RE: Fire rating of exit door

Why not call an architect friend (we all have at least one we trust) and ask them? That's what I always do in situations like this. Most of them (in Canada at least) will throw you a bone on an easy question like this.

RE: Fire rating of exit door

Do you have the original architectural plans? The door schedule would tell you. It is not quite as simple as one single clause in the code book. It depends where the door is exiting to, size of the facility, and if the bldg has sprinklers.

I can't find the door schedule on the 1974 architectural drawings but I do see a note saying that "glass in doors, entrances and vestibule screens shall be 1/4" thick wired glass". Does that give any clue as to the fire rating?

I will also see if I can contact an architect.
