Question on welding analysis according to DVS 1612 or IIW standard

Question on welding analysis according to DVS 1612 or IIW standard

Question on welding analysis according to DVS 1612 or IIW standard

(OP)
Hello everyone,

I am calculation welding structure using fea method and evaluating the welding seam strength according to DVS 1612.

Some part of our structure are not through welded while the DVS 1612 is only valid for through welded structure (I am not sure about this). DVS is based on nominal stress which means that the welding seam dimensioning a or Z has no effect on the result which is of course not right.

So my quesiton is:
1. Can I evulate not-through welded strucuture using DVS 1612 or DVS 1608 code ?
2. a or z value has an effe
ct on the welding strength, but how should I deal with it?

Thanks in advance.

BR,
Felix.
