White layer- Nitriding process

White layer- Nitriding process

White layer- Nitriding process

(OP)
Hi,

How to control the white layer in gas carburising process. we are getting 12 micron white layer if processing upto 0.6mm Nitriding casedepth.

please guide us how to reduce the white layer.

RE: White layer- Nitriding process

Refer to the ASM Metals Handbook on heat treating. The way white layer is controlled is by changing the dissociation rate in the later stages of the process. Start out with a dissociation rate of 15 to 30%. In the second stage, the dissociation rate is changed to 65-85%.

RE: White layer- Nitriding process

Or too low of a temp.
There are a lot of factors, there are entire books on the subject.
