Greetings,

Both of my YORK Reciprocating Chillers in one of my Hospitals are not working because of faulty compressors.

YORK's assessment states that it is due to ageing (20 years) and a modification was made where the oil discharge transducer was bypassed.
This modification was made because the Chiller frequently trips and to avoid interruptions to the Hospitals Air Conditioning systems.

I understand that if the oil discharge transducer is bypassed, there is no way the chiller will detect the amount of oil entering the compressor.
My contractors had no idea when this modification took place and whether the tripping problem was resolved.

My question is how significant this modification can effect the performance of the compressors and cause it to breakdown.

Yes, if the chiller oil pressure drops below acceptable levels and the pressure switch does not stop the machine, it will destroy itself eventually. Just like your car's engine...
