Finglow Yeild Stress Figure

Finglow Yeild Stress Figure

Finglow Yeild Stress Figure

(OP)
Hello,

I'm using Finglow 3D December 2013 to calculate the minimum shell thickness of a tank which is required to withstand a vacuum pressure of 100 mbar made from SS 304.

I'd like to know the figure that Finglow uses for the yield stress for BS 1501-304-S11 but cannot find it on the program.

The tank is 5mm thick but in the calculations the minimum required thickness is 5.12 mm - if Finglow is using a yield stress less than the yield stress of the material we use to build the tank then it may meet the ASME VIII requirements without having to move to a 6mm shell.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Best,

Tom

It would appear that the copy of Finglow is not a registered one otherwise why not go directly to the software developer and ask them for the value they have input into the program!!

I have found the yield stress values that Finglow is using - it is displayed on the reports generated.

Corus, I thought the yield stress would be an important factor for tanks failing but I might be wrong. Why doesn't the yield stress come into it? I've been reading into buckling more as a failure mode but I haven't found anything highly relevant for tanks - so far I've just found examples relating to beams.
