Basic Question on Design Analysis

Basic Question on Design Analysis

Basic Question on Design Analysis

(OP)
Hi All,

Please see the attached plan. When I design the 2-way slab (GL 1-3), I want to utilize the moment from the span 3-4. How should I get the moment from span 3-4? Use 3D software or analyse the whole frame (GL 1-4) and get the negative moment at support at GL 3. Use it for 2-way slab design?

What is your practice?

Thanks

RE: Basic Question on Design Analysis

Are you inquiring about moment redistribution? Or are you trying to use a multi-span solution to minimize your beam size? I'm not sure what your intent of the question is, so can't help. Can you be more clear?

RE: Basic Question on Design Analysis

An 2D equivalent frame run from grids 1 to 4 will be fine.

Use effective flange beam/slab props for beam span of grids 3-4.

Reduce your stiffness of your end columns to reflect realistic moment transfer.

Are the 2-way slabs going to be post-tensioned , and if so, will it use column-middle strip with bonded PT or banded tendons and UNbonded PT?

Thanks Ingenuity
All the elements will be Bonded PT and will use average moment method (without column-middle strip).

I saw people design span 2-3 of 2-way slab as end span and one way beam spanning GL 3-4 as simple span beam.

Is it conservative?

BTW What do mean by slap props?

I am not talking about moment redistribution. Yes, I am trying to use multi spans solution like you said.
