NX 8 user with NX9 Questions about Patterns / Instances / Arrays

NX 8 user with NX9 Questions about Patterns / Instances / Arrays

NX 8 user with NX9 Questions about Patterns / Instances / Arrays

(OP)
Continuing a discussion started in this thread.

So, picking up where I left off, there have been improvements and changes in NX9 regarding associative circular copying.  Improvements in Pattern Feature and the addition of Pattern Geometry.

Can you open the attached NX file below (teeth_nx8.prt) in NX9 and unsuppress Edge Blend(5) and see if it is applied correctly?  If not try deleting it and reapplying it using the same values?

Why does the second file below work (teeth2_nx8.prt)?

Regarding Pattern Geometry, can one still instance a solid associatively (like in my repetitive "pie section" examples)?

Thanks in advance!

RE: NX 8 user with NX9 Questions about Patterns / Instances / Arrays

While I can't explain the odd blending behavior, I would use 'Pattern Face' to do this, as I've done in the attached file. And for the record, this particular issue is the same in NX 9.0 and NX 10.0.

That being said, if I were you, I would take your original part and contact GTAC and see what they've got to say about it (warning your that they might come back and recommend using 'Pattern Face' like it did).

Thanks - just was curious if you had any inside info as to what might be going on. I've seen this happen before using other commands in older versions of the software.

I already looked into the What's New for NX9 concerning the Pattern Geometry capability - sounds like it does the same thing as Instance Geometry with a revamped dialog/input criteria, so I should be able to stick to the "pie section" workflow as a last resort.

I'm serious about submitting your parts to GTAC since I suspect that it's a persistent (or in this case a lack of persistence) edge ID issue and development needs example parts to track this sort of issue.

John,

Sent in both parts to GTAC and explained the behavior in NX8, NX9 and NX10. Walter opened in an upcoming MR for NX9 and he said that all the Edge Blends displayed properly. IR was closed as fixed in next release.
