Keeping assembly constraints during restructuring

Keeping assembly constraints during restructuring

Keeping assembly constraints during restructuring

(OP)
Hello all,

I run into a common problem in NX: when I have to do any kind of product resrtucturing, I lose all constraints and geometry links.

For example, I have a subassembly which consists of a machined part and helicoils. I decide to use threaded holes instead of helicoils, removing the subassembly with helicoils installed. Now my next higher assembly needs to referance the detail part instead of the subassembly.

I've tried replacing the assembly file with the detail part, doing a drag-and drop operation, and several other methods to no avail.

Is there a way to add or remove assembly levels while retaining constraints and geometric links?

I'm hoping for something similar to the "replacement assistant" feature with wave links, which has been a huge time saver for me.

FYI, I am using NX 7.5.5.4.

as faras I Know a project infuture versions nx10 or above

RE: Keeping assembly constraints during restructuring

If I understand correctly what you're asking for, then the answer is that there are currently no plans for something like this in either NX 10.0 or NX 11.0. Now if you wish to, please contact GTAC and have them open an ER describing what it is that you're looking for so that when we do our future planning that we'll have your requirements properly documented.

Thank you for the fast replies, I had a bad feeling that was going to be the case.

We just got thrown a curveball that will require us to remove a product structure level from all of our basic structural levels. We have over 50 different configurations of 8 top level assemblies, and we estimate that remaking all constraints will take 1500+ engineering hours.

I will contact GTAC and describe my predicament. Hopefully in the future we'll see some functionality to avoid this kind of situation.

Thanks,

Jason
