Seeking some clarification

Seeking some clarification

Seeking some clarification

(OP)
Hi All,
I would like to understand very basic conceptual difference between IEC and ANSI engineering standards.

What difference does the two standards make during calculation and configuration of a protection equipment/relay?

Thanks
Miamivise

RE: Seeking some clarification

I wish there was a fast track to that insight.
I will certainly read all answers to this thread with the utmost interest.

Half full - Half empty? I don't mind. It's what in it that counts.

RE: Seeking some clarification

Is there a somewhat narrower selection of standards you are interested in? Some standards have been harmonized, some standards have relatively minor differences, and some standards take very different approaches.

RE: Seeking some clarification

One set is the true and correct way of doing things while the other is a messed up, screwball approach. winky smile

The folks in North America will have one answer as to which is which, while pretty much everybody else comes to the other conclusion.

bacon4life: when you say narrower selection what do you mean? because I am trying to get some justification for Transmission and sub-transmission level standards, i.e. 132kV and above here within Australia. We use IEC standards but some relays that we are getting to configure are coming from US which use ANSI standards and also the single line diagram representation is in ANSI.

I am just using the same calculations nos. and figures as per IEC calculation and configuring the relay. I am hoping the different standards should impact my calculations. The only problem will be the relay GUI which is still in ANSI. I guess I have to live with it.

Cheers,
