Live tank X Dead tank breakers - specification differences ?

Live tank X Dead tank breakers - specification differences ?

Live tank X Dead tank breakers - specification differences ?

(OP)
Dear friends,

I am investigating differences between live and dead tank breakers when specifying the equipment for purchase.

Apart from the obvious absence of CT's in live tank breakers, are there any other significant differences between them ? How would a live tank specification differ from a dead tank one ?

Thanks a lot,

Mongao

Another noticeable difference is volume or weight of SF6 gas.DTCB has much more volume of dielectric gas

As long as they are both specified with C37.04, the performance should be similar. The performance requirements of circuit switchers specified with C37.16 are different, so be very explicit about which performance level you need.

If you are in a cold climate the dead tank breakers (DTB) utilize electric tank heaters to keep the SF6 gas from liquefying whereas the live tank breakers (LTB) utilize a mixed gas to prevent liquefaction. If you require black start capabilities LTB’s may be a better option for you in cold climates.
