Through wall tensile testing
Through wall tensile testing
(OP)
Hi all,
I need to specify tensile test that shows how the mechanical properties vary across the wall thickness of the pipe (X60 pipe, heavy wall... over 45mm)
API 5L reads something on the lines of "tensile test probes shall be representative of the wall thickness of the pipe", but our design consultant is worried that there will be different values at different sections of the thickness.
What test would you recommend? I am more interested on how to extract the samples, than anything else.
Regards,

Actually a good micro exam and a hardness traverse should tell you the same thing.
If the structure and hardness are uniform then the properties will be fairly consistant.
