AWS - CWI seminar and exam preparation
AWS - CWI seminar and exam preparation
(OP)
Hi,
I am planning to take AWS-CWI seminar and exam within next 2-3 months since I am interested in welding inspection. I have worked in the same field before. I need to study before attending the seminar especially for Part A and B(fundamentals and Practical) of the exam which may not be fully covered in 2 weeks' seminar. Can someone please give me an idea on how I should prepare and what specific materials I should use? Also, what kind of questions are there in Part B? I need some guidance.
Thank you.

a) Highlight and Tab what the Instructor advises you will be ion the exam
b) Using the highlights/Tabs review and memorize the basics of the subject
c) Use the Highlights/Tabs to find the answer during the practice exams
2) Choose a Section each night and review/memorize what you can
3) Pay Attention to the section on Visual Inspection
a) You will be using plastic samples to ID defects/conditions and they can be/are
confusing if you have never worked with them previously.
b) If you are unfamiliar with using calipers, gauges, etc - buy/borrow a set and
practice, practice, practice.
4) Of the 3 Exams (General Knowledge, Code and Visual Inspection) the Practical can
trip you up the most, next being the 50 question closed Book exam. the 150
question Exam is easier because it is Open book and here is where your Tabbing
and High Lighting will be of use.
5) Use the D1.1 code Index! - High Light the Subject AND the Pages with the
answer...That will direct you to what you need in a minimum amount of time. Also
you ARE permitted to write additional info/locations in the Index AS LONG AS YOU
HIGHLIGHT THE WRITING! (I had a Proctor be a major A**Hole on my last Exam with
a Ex-Military kid who was taking the test for the 1st time and had not one
this...do not make this error!)
6) If you need advice/help PM me and I'll walk you thru it.. additionally a member
here (GTAW) is also a good source of AWS Test info as he is, I believe, they Gent
who taught my AWS Re-Cert course last year in Pittsburgh. (Hi Al!)
7) Do not try and cram the night before the Exam...get 8 hrs sleep and rest your
brain...you will need all the "little grey cells" during the test!

Point of information: the Fundamentals examination, 150 questions, is closed book. It is the code book examination (Part C) that is open book and it is the code that the candidate can used a tabbed copy of the code.
The Part B examination, the Practical, is the one that separates the men from the boys.

Yes, the 150 questions fundamental exam is a closed book. I think AWS welding handbooks should be enough to prepare for the fundamentals.
Do they send a copy of D1.1 when I register for the seminar and exam? What other materials/books can I use?

part b has nothing to do with d1.1 or 1104. ITS A FAKE CODE BOOK
