ASME A578 Acceptance level S6

I came across a comment which states that" All clad shell and head plates to be subjected to 100% UT after cladding per ASME A578 Acceptance level S6 class C, S1 &SA264 Class 1"

Vendor replay that SA264 is not appropriate as this applies to only bonded clad which is not being used as weld overlay s being used. Can someone please explain ? I try reading ASME578 but did not get any clue out of it. Just for eductation purpose . Thanks.

RE: ASME A578 Acceptance level S6

S6 is a calibration level & rejection level. It specifies a particular size of flat-bottomed hole drilled into one end a series cylinders, of differing lengths. A curve is marked on the UT screen showing the peak height and location [left to right gives increasing sound path/length of block]. This curve is used as the Accept/Reject criteria for bonds -- if the return signal peak goes above the curve, it represents a rejectable flaw. Typically, 50% of curve height is 'recordable' - put it in the report, and less than 50% is inconsequential - leave it out of the report.

BTW, how about class C, S1 &SA264 Class 1"

RE: ASME A578 Acceptance level S6

You'd have to look those up - IIRC, those are bigger flat-bottom hole cal blocks.
