thread330-186625: Heat Affected Zone
Good Day!

I just would like to ask:
(1)is there any written code stating the removal of weld heat affected zone? If there is, can someone share this code for my reference?
(2) how do we remove have and up to what extent? how can we determine that size of weld HAZ?

Thank you

RE: Weld Heat Affected Zone (HAZ)

1) There is no Code mandating removal of the HAZ in carbon and low alloy steels.
2) For carbon and low alloy steels, the only effective way to remove the HAZ is to renormalize or anneal the weldment. Heat treatment must excced the upper critical temperature.
