Motor full load amps question

Motor full load amps question

Motor full load amps question

(OP)
Chaps, just a quicky. Am I right in thinking that on a three phase motor's nameplate the full load amps is refering to the current drawn on each individual phase?

Thanks

RE: Motor full load amps question

The MAXIMUM current drawn under full load without over heating the motor, but yes, per phase. Whenever current is discussed in a 3 phase load, it is always referring to the current of each phase, unless specifically referred to otherwise, which usually only happens in distribution or combination loads, or when discussing metering in the context of current balance between phases.

That's so you can use a clamp-on and assess how much load is present.
