SA-333 Grade 6 as Pressure Vessel Shell Material Sec VIII

SA-333 Grade 6 as Pressure Vessel Shell Material Sec VIII

(OP)
ASME Sec VIII - UCS-27 states that shells of pressure vessels can be made from seamless pipe but must be manufactured by the open-hearth, basic oxygen, or electric-furnace process. Using SA-333 Grade 6 pipe, how can I prove that this requirement has been met, if on the MTR it only says, "Melted and manufactured in the USA, no repairs by welding"?

Go to the mill and ask. Essentially it will be one of the three, most likely only BOF or Electric Furnace.

By any chance, is the MTR dual rated for SA-53? Per the SA-53 specification: "4.1 The steel for both seamless and welded pipe shall be made by one or more of the following processes: open-hearth, electric-furnace, or basic-oxygen".

I seem to recollect reading that there are no open hearth still operating. That being the case, EF or BO are your options.
