Forward and negative fault.

Forward and negative fault.

(OP)
Hey guys

In negative sequence impedance directional element: what is the meaning of forward fault and negative fault?

RE: Forward and negative fault.

Forward and reverse? No idea what a negative fault would be.

RE: Forward and negative fault.

Forward fault limited by positive sequence impedance,
Negative fault limited by negative sequence impedance?

RE: Forward and negative fault.

Just did search terms "forward" and "reverse" in some random GE and SEL manuals and got no results.

RE: Forward and negative fault.

johndaniel,

This refers to the type of fault detected, and it is based on the voltages and currents that are present during the fault.

Rather than trying to explain, if you paste this address into your searchbar, it will give you a pdf from Schweitzer on negative sequence relay operation. Starting on page 3, it describes the types of faults you are enquiring about.
