API 650

API 650

(OP)
.Fellow Engineers,

I need an assistance on Annular plate thickness and width calculations

I dont understand the code.

please assist

RE: API 650

You'll have to be more specific. What is your situation and problem? The code is fairly straightforward in this respect. There are minimums for thickness and width and an equation or two along the way. Make sure you have the latest version of API 650. First determine if you indeed need an annular plate ( sections 5.5.1 and M.4.1 ). Then determine the required radial width ( section 5.5.2 ). Then the required thickness ( section 5.5.3 ). Note: the equation is 5.5.2 is being revised to be more transparent and easier to use but is not in publication just yet.

thank for your response, Am a newbie just want to sure of my calculations.
please Clearify what constitutes the diameter used to computation the Annualar
thickness

RE: API 650

In API 650, references to "diameter" mean the nominal tank diameter, which calculation are you using for annular plate thickness that involves the tank diameter?

RE: API 650

When calcularing the S(t) for annular plate thicknesses selection , what constitute the Diameter. in the equation

S(t)= 2.6 x D(H-1)/t(b)

RE: API 650

"diameter" means the nominal tank diameter.

Don't overthink the process, API shell and annular ring calc's are pretty simple.

Fellow Engineers,

I need assistance calculating the Cone shape self support roof and Wind girder

RE: API 650

What is your specific question? Both of these are also mostly cookbook using the equations in API 650.

I need the equations and reference section on API

RE: API 650

The tank diameter is the size of the cylindrical tank in plan view (looking down from the top). The nominal tank diameter is just another way of saying diameter. In API 650, it is the mid-thickness diameter of the bottom ring unless the owner specifies otherwise ( choices include inside diameter and outside diameter ). It is not calculated in API 650 rather it is a basic dimension along with the tank height, product density, etc that you have to know before using API 650. If you don't have the tank diameter and/or tank height, it's time to get those. If possible, get the tank data sheet filled out ( see annex L in API 650 ).

RE: API 650

If you need to calculate the tank diameter and/or height, you will need to know the desired storage volume and the capacity of the soils or foundation to start with. Then the optimization begins. Additional factors will be corrosion allowances, snow, wind and seismic loading, internal and external pressure loading, steel availability, if anchors are possible, etc ( see the tank data sheet in Annex L for these and all the rest )
