Just thought I'd leave eng-tip on this. To recap we're talking about designing circular concrete beams for flexure only. CRSI has tables that show phiMn (moment capacity)for a circular section. Unfortunately the tables don't have reinforcing on the low end. The tables are set up for columns so they only go down to 2%. For a pile it is acceptable to go down to 0.5% reinforcing. I try to keep it closer to 1%, but that's still 'off the charts' so to speak. Fortunately, crsi shows calculations for the column tables, so I'm going to try to design some with 0.5% this way.
