Height of Conical Section

Height of Conical Section

Height of Conical Section

(OP)
hi.....
Please let me know, how to decide the height of conical section between two shells having different diameters in column or any pressure vessel, if TL/TL height is not given by Process in PDS. What is the criteria to decide it?

Thanks in Advance....

RE: Height of Conical Section

?

Politely, you have given us no information. What pressure service?
What metals?
What duty cycle?
What materials are being processed aat what temperature?
What are the diameters of the cones? What is small diameter? Large diameter?
Why can you not make it twice as long?
Why can you not make half as tall?

The ratio between dia 1 - height - diameter 2 is complex, but you have given us no information.

RE: Height of Conical Section

And, now being completely sarcastic, the height of the conic section must be long enough to fill in the gap between the two circular wall tower sections. And that reply would be totally useless.

But come on! You have a tall pressure vessel handling unsafe material at pressure and high temperatures. If the conic section is "too short" you get excess stress in the conic walls at the transition. If too tall, you may (or may not) begin to affect the process and the relative temperature of the rising gasses/fluids, right?

Thanx for the reply....

But is there something like, the height of the conical section should be (D1+D2)/2 x (3 to 4) and the apex angle max. 30 deg?

where D1 and D2 are the diameters of the two upper and lower cylindrical shells.
