Assembly Add Component Defaults

Assembly Add Component Defaults

Assembly Add Component Defaults

(OP)
I have 2 questions about default behavior in assemblies in NX 8.5.

Say I have an assembly that is 3 levels deep (Assy_1 is within Assy_2. Assy_2 is within Assy_3). When I finish building Assy_2, I hide the constraints and datum coordinate system from Assy_1 to keep things looking clean. So the only coordinate system I see when I open the Assy_2 file is for Assy_2. In version 6, when I "Add Component" Assy_2 into Assy_3, the display of coordinate systems was consistent with the way I left Assy_2. I only saw the coordinate system for Assy_2, and Assy_1 coordinate system was still hidden. I would use the coordinate system for Assy_2 to constrain it within Assy_3 and then similarly hide it when completed. So basically I hide all the coordinate systems from sub-assemblies, and they stay hidden when added to another assembly. In version 8.5, each time I add an assembly, every coordinate system from every sub-assembly is displayed. (Meaning I see Assy_2 and Assy_1). I know I can use the Show/Hide window and hide all coordinate systems, but I don't want to hide every coordinate system. I only want to hide the coordinate systems from sub-assemblies. It is getting annoying having to repeatedly go into that window to hide and then show the coordinate systems I want when it has already been specified in the sub-assembly. Is there a way to get the same behavior I had in version 6?

My second question involves the default reference set. When I add a part to an assembly, it comes in as a "model" by default. Almost always, the first thing I need to do is change it to "Entire Part" to do my assembly constraints. Is it possible to add the part as "Entire Part" by default? Once constrained, I can then change it to "model".

Thanks in advance

RE: Assembly Add Component Defaults

In the "Add Component" dialog box, expand the "Settings" section; here you can specify which reference set you want to use for the newly added component. If I remember correctly, dialog memory will take effect the next time you use the dialog and the reference set will 'default' to the one previously specified (if it exists in the part).
