Hello,

I am writing this because I've been trying to develop a model of an extrusion die for a quite simple profile.
I've done with I-DEAS and ANSYS but they didn't solve properly.
Using I-DEAS software I didn't know how to solve the error "Element highly distorted". I've tried to remesh and to make some changes in "solve options" but I still haven't found a solution for this.

If you have been done any model of extrusion I would appreciate if you could help me. (Using I-DEAS, ANSYS or LS-DYNA)

By the way, What do you think is the best package to solve extrusion models?

Most extrusion is relatively fast (~1m/s) and as such should be ameanable to a steady-state solution. I would suggest an Eulerian solution would be a good approach - this is one where the mesh remains fixed and the material moves through the mesh. A classical CFD mau do what you want but it will be limited by the constituative models that you can apply. A better approach may be an explicit code with the Eulerian capability. I use ABAQUS (www.abaqus.com) which has this facility, but there are others such as Altair (http://www.altair.com. I would not like to say which is "best" though as this will depend on exactly what you need.
