Sports.....

(OP)
Hi,
My first thread; anybody involved or/and passioned about sport (in general) and/or soccer (in special)?

Regards,

RE: Sports.....

Roller Derby! Played for a year and had a great time; got out unbroken.

Good for you! I was less luckier...
Got a soccer injure that has been keeping me out of the soccer fild since January this year......
I just enjoying watching soccer at the moment.

RE: Sports.....

Rowing and cycling. Pretty low impact if you have previous sports injuries and you can do them for nearly your entire life.

RE: Sports.....

Scuba diving, the sport for anyone, including the wantonly obese! Buoyancy is a wonderful equalizer.

That's nice of you........

RE: Sports.....

I took up rowing after I hurt my back quite badly a few years ago, largely to help rebuild the strength I lost in the long months recovering from injury. Up to that point most of my biking had been fairly high impact, but I'm more sensible now because I could really mess things up if I have a bad crash.

Kayking again? Hopefully! A couple of months ago I got back in my dated-looking kayak and my even more dated equipment and can still manage it after 20 years out of the sport. smile

RE: Sports.....

Cycling, specifically, randonneuring.

RE: Sports.....

I play soccer sporadically in 40 & Up leagues when my knees allow me to. I generally prefer the lower impact activities of cycling, darts, and shooting pool... not sure those are the sports you are talking about.

RE: Sports.....

I've played indoor soccer for a while with a team from work (mostly other engineers), but that's been a year or two since the last time. Really enjoyed it, though I couldn't say I'm much good. I kept twisting my ankle though, unless I played goalie then that's ok.
My real love is inline hockey. I play on a rec team weekly...and leave work early when needed!

RE: Sports.....

Mountain Biking here!!! Alot less pounding on the body than running for me.

RE: Sports.....

I love mountain biking too. I just got done putting on new grips. I've been in Knoxville for a year and need to get on the trails more. There are a ton of great ones around here.

RE: Sports.....

kaconnol, I grew up in Knoxville! Where do you like to ride? Husband is always asking when we go back, but I never know where to tell him.

Please remember: we're not all guys!

RE: Sports.....

I play soccer, indoor mostly since my schedule never allows for committing to outdoor outher than pick up games. Totally miss outdoor but can hopefully get back to it once things settle down with the new baby.

RE: Sports.....

For those interested in mountain biking in the Knoxville area, you might see what the Tri-Cities Sorba chapter has to offer. IT isn't quite out the back door, but isn't an insurmountable distance either. I'm in PA but have a photographer friend in Johnston City who rides regularly. Beautiful area too.

RE: Sports.....

Oh yes, sport is very good when you just want to left eight hours of sitting behind the desk behind and feel free. Personaly I'm a martial arts hothead. For almost 2 years I train Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Currently I have a blue belt in it.

RE: Sports.....

Drinking coffee. Arguing politics and global warming heat thermodynamics in science forums. I'm too slow to play sports - and at 158 lbs and 6'0" I'm too skinny to enjoy the competitive ones.

RE: Sports.....

I think I went to Knoxville IJAMS once, there was a nice little abandoned quarry where you can swim in the summer, if you want to cool off from a bike ride.

I enjoy playing soccer at a few different rec. leagues around town. I'm no super star, but I've always enjoyed team sports and have found soccer to be pretty addicting!

RE: Sports.....

I'm with the throwing darts and shooting pool folks, now.
But I did do boxing (the noble art, not kickboxing or anything similar) for a few years, and was actually not too bad at it during the 3 years I entered in competition (got a rather nice record to prove this).

Currently I'm trying to set up a science club at our local school (for 12-18 yr olds), together with someone else, where he will focus on IT and electronics and me on the mechanical aspect. This is a sport on itself, believe me, trying to accumulate authorisation, insurance, funds, ... is really wearing you out.

RE: Sports.....

Backpacking in the swing seasons, skiing in winter, inline skating in the summer

RE: Sports.....

I'm an ice hockey goalie. Nothing like the smell of burning rubber as some clown shoots the puck at your head.
Seriously, it's great fun. I've been doing it since I was a kid.

RE: Sports.....

Swim, bike and run...did that competitively for 10+ years. Also MTN biking.

Now just run every day...for fun.

RE: Sports.....

Well hockey is over for another year.
My son plays in a 10 Years and under group. Great season. His team won the league championship. They also entered the provincial play-offs.
They won a division championship and were one of the 8 teams in the final province wide playoffs. They stalled there, but had a great time. It was a good season for the kids and a great season for the parents!
