force calculation of plates

force calculation of plates

force calculation of plates

(OP)
I'm working on a little project for myself. One of the parts is like a chain link that holds two peace's together as in the picture. I'm trying to work out how thick the plates need to be to support a load of 60 kn. The plates will be made from stainless steel. with 10mm of material around the hole for the pin. let me know if there is more information needed as I'm sure there will be.

Thanks :)

RE: force calculation of plates

you're critical load is probably bearing on the pin, = P/Dt.

if you make the link plates 2D wide, then net section tension is P/Dt as well.

use standard plate thicknesses for t.
