rotating datum box

rotating datum box

rotating datum box

(OP)
hello - small time solidworks user -i am having a hard time finding where i can rotate the datum feature box - not the composite frame box but the initial datum box "a" or "b" or ,etc.
it always attaches it self in the horizontal location & i want to rotate it to vertical sometimes - also where can i rotate a line of text - non of our users here can answer my questions -
any help would be greatly appreciated - thank you

RE: rotating datum box

What version of SW are you using? The orientation of the datum feature box connection is a result of the orientation of the edge to which it is attached. Horizontal edge produces horizontal connection; vertical edge produces vertical connection. The text in the box is always oriented right side up.

To rotate note text select the note and look in the property manager. Under Text Format you'll see a box where you can fill in an angle.

hello again & thank you for the help - i realize that the box is oriented to the line it is attached to - i want to rotate it from that line - if i pick a horizontal line i want the box to be vertical or 90 degrees to that line

RE: rotating datum box

OK, now you've got me confused. If you select a horizontal line, the connector line will be vertical. The box is, well, a box. The text is oriented top up. What do you mean when you say you want "the box to be vertical"?

hello again - sorry for the confusion - if the "a" in the box is reading horizontal now, i want to turn the box 90 degrees still attached to the line so that the
"a" is now reading vertical still attached to the same line - i hope this helps - you can turn the feature control symbols horizontal or vertical just by picking the
icon in the menu but no where have i found that you can do this with the datum symbol - thank you again

RE: rotating datum box

Not sure why you would want to rotate it. Maybe add a jog to it in settings.

RE: rotating datum box

Here's what you can do (not quite so quickly as the normal one).
Open the Geometric Tolerance Properties, place any symbol to open the Primary datum box, type in the datum letter, go back to the symbol box and click on the blank. Place your datum on the dwg.. Click on it and change the angle in the Feature Manager to 90°,click the leader and the no bend. Right click on the arrow head and change it to the datum triangle. Place on the side or dimension location.
This isn't as automatic as the one that's included, but it should help with your problem.
