Penalty radiography

Penalty radiography

(OP)
Dear All,
I am working in a power plant construction project.
In my QAP the radiography to be taken for Water Wall Panel to Header joints is 10 percent of total joints welded per welder per shift. But there is nothing described about the additional joints to be radiographed (as penalty radiography) if the 10 percent radiographed joints fail.

How can we determine the nos. of penalty radiography to be taken. Is there any code reference..?

Kindly help.

Alok

RE: Penalty radiography

Not that familiar with B31.1, but reviewing/scanning the Code, I think you need to study para 137.8.

RE: Penalty radiography

Refer to B31.3 for Progressive Examination.
ASME I does not require RT of the subject welds; the Owner/Engineer does. It is up to the Owner/Engineer to define whether progressive examination is required and to define those requirements.
