Implementing Periodic Boundary Conditions

Implementing Periodic Boundary Conditions

Implementing Periodic Boundary Conditions

(OP)
Hi,

My project involves simulating forging process with a die pressed against a workpiece. I have a 3D model consisting of a cuboidal workpiece(blue) and a die(grey). I have attached pics of the model.

I've looked at a number of forum posts but couldn't find proper instructions on how to implement PBCs. I could make out the following ways of going about it:

1) Create node sets consisting of the nodes of each face and then use python to implement the equation constraint for every single node pair. Since I have a fine mesh this would involve a huge number of constraints, so I wanted to look for other alternatives.

2) Use dummy nodes to apply PBC. Could someone please explain how this can be done.

3) Another method I tried was editing the input file to apply the equation constraint between sets containing the faces. However this gave me an error that the DOF for some of the nodes were not specified and for some nodes.

I have been struggling with this for quite some time. I would be really grateful if somebody could help me out.
