line weight choices in NX drafting

line weight choices in NX drafting

line weight choices in NX drafting

(OP)
nx 8.5

in NX drafting, why there are not many line weight options? we only have 0.13, 0.18, 0.25, 0.5, 0.7 1.00, 1.4 and 2.0

today i printed out the drawing and compare it with the standard template drawing developed by Autodesk people and found out the line weight in NX drawing is much thicker

since the template developed by autodesk people have been there for 5 yrs so i have ot follow the standard....

is it a way to add more line weight options?

thank you

RE: line weight choices in NX drafting

NX 8.5 and above lets you modify the line weights. In the NX help, go to Home -> What's new in NX 8.5 -> Fundamentals -> custom widths enhancements. I don't know what is involved as I have not created any custom widths, but perhaps that start page will point you in the right direction.

RE: line weight choices in NX drafting

You should consider yourself lucky. Prior to NX 8.5 you would have only had a choice of THREE line widths; Thin, Medium and Thick, and while it was possible to control the final 'width' of these lines, at least when Printing and Plotting, this was it, period. Starting with NX 8.5, that number increased to NINE line widths, so we're way ahead of where we used to be.

Now if you REALLY need to PLOT your Drawings using more than NINE line widths, you can do what users had to do prior to NX 8.5 when they needed more than THREE line widths. They simply assigned different colors to different objects and then when they set-up a plot, they used the option to assign line width by color. In this way, it was possible, although not very practical, to have as many as 216 different line widths on your final plotted Drawing.

hi,

after looking at the help document, i still dont know how to apply the concept....

initially, what triggered me to ask the line weight choice question is that unlike Autocad which you can define many line weight; however, in NX, i just those 9 line weight option

for example, in the annotation property window, the 0/13 is the thinnest line weight i can pick, but, i want the line to be much thinner, say 0.05 or even 0.03mm on some drawing views
is there any simple example i cna go through?

thanks

RE: line weight choices in NX drafting

If you're looking for how lines will appear on the screen, changing their 'width' will have no effect. The values you see are for printing/plotting only.
