PE stamp on ladder and platform

Dear all,

Does it require PE stamp for ladder and platform desgin for API storage tanks in Georgia state ?

RE: PE stamp on ladder and platform

Does that constitute the practice of engineering under Georgia state laws?
Is there anything exempting the person or the item under Georgia state laws?

In practice, there is probably a fair bit of engineering done that should be sealed (& done by a licensed PE) that is not.

Note that there are a number of exemptions which vary from state to state, but including for example, manufactured products, designing improvements to one's own property, utility construction, federal work, etc., and it can take some research into a state's laws to determine what exactly is required.

RE: PE stamp on ladder and platform

As a betting man, I would bet 'No' and give odds. Reasoning: per AISC the [small] stairs and platform are 'Misc. Steel' and are not defined as a main part if a structure. And have never seen/heard of that being necessary.

They are indeed a Life Safety erection, so Mom & Pop's Shadetree Steel need not bid on it on my jobs, unless they can show a WPS, welder quals, and a valid inspector.

Thus tank platforms do not require a PE stamp, but do need to be fabbed, erected, and inspected to AWS D1.1 in the manner of 'main structure' - IMHO. bigears
