Basal instability

Basal instability

Basal instability

(OP)
Hello,

I have a project where sheet pile are used for a 12m deep excavation in clay (9m wide, 150m long). The sheet pile are driven 2m in a underlying layer of Till to overcome basal stability problems, but I have to demonstrate the factor of safety for the basal stability. The only method I know of (see attached) does not considerate the embedment of the sheet pile, and the value I get is lower than the minimum (the FS must be at least 1.5 here). Could anybody help me for the calculation of the FS? Any useful references?

Thank you very much in advance for your help!

Regards,

Jonathan.
