Equivalent longitudinal weld efficiency per ASME VIII Div.1

Equivalent longitudinal weld efficiency per ASME VIII Div.1

Equivalent longitudinal weld efficiency per ASME VIII Div.1

(OP)
I am reading a "Classic BULLETIN Article" that appeared on the National Board website at
https://www.nationalboard.org/PrintPage.aspx?NewsP...

In one of the questions and answers, someone asked how to calculate the value of "E" for use in the UG-27 formula where there are different welds each with a different degree of x-ray inspection. There is a method presented to derive an equivalent weld joint efficiency, being the lowest of the various weld joint efficiencies.

I am confused by one aspect where the equivalent weld joint efficiency is determined, being where the circumferential joint which attaches the shell to a seamless head at each end is given a joint efficiency of 2 x 0.7 = 1.4

Moreover, the seamless heads were attached to the cylinder by a type 1 butt weld with spot radiograhy, which lends me to question if it shouldn't have been 0.85 instead of 0.7.

Can anyone explain this logic?

Can anyone share some light on this issue please?
