RT WPQ coupon from multi welders

RT WPQ coupon from multi welders

can RT be used for multi welder (manual TIG) welded coupon for performance qualification test? Or bend test has to be used per ASME IX? In order to get deposit t for each welder, do you need to have that from bend test or just record during the coupon testing? It is not too clear from Section IX about this. Again, thank for the time and clarification.

RE: RT WPQ coupon from multi welders

Hi Stanweld99

i am not expert in this but please see QW-142 asme sec IX for qualification your welder you can use RT or Side Bend but for deposit of each welder you qualified of course you need record for coupon testing. Please see Section III of asme IX QW-350 (qw-404.30) for more detail.

Thanks n Regards

Also check out QW-306

RE: RT WPQ coupon from multi welders

Also depends on the code and applicaton.

For work performed in compression facities under 49CFR192, welders are required to be qualified via destructive testing.

192.229.a: (a) No welder whose qualification is based on nondestructive testing may weld compressor station pipe and components.

Per ASME IX QW 304, no issues qualifying welders via RT for GTAW but for short circuit GMAW Section IX clause QW 304 does not allow welder qualification via RT.

ASME : Always, Sometimes, Maybe, Except

RE: RT WPQ coupon from multi welders

The bottom line is either both welders pass or both welders fail.
