Impact on concrete slab

Impact on concrete slab

(OP)
Dear all,

I am attempting to model an impact test using Abaqus. I have modeled a projectile falling from a distance of 10 meters using solid elements. The gravity was modeled though the dynamic explicit step. I have also used surface to surface contact with a friction coefficient of 0.2. My results show correct deflections but the impact force time history presents a peak does without damping. The acceleration graph is also a bit weird.

If anyone has any experience using Abaqus and provide me with any advice I would appreciate it.

Thank you.

Stath.

Hi IceBreakerSours,

I have introduced a damping of 5% by experience according to Abaqus documentation and a value for mass proportional Rayleigh damping factor was provided based on mode of vibration. I am afraid that I am doing something wrong with my contact analysis. I have used surface to surface instead of general contact to have more control of the contacts. I also have used the penalty contact method instead of kinematic. But again the results with both analysis look almost the same.

Thank you for your quick response.

Thanks.

RE: Impact on concrete slab

Can you post the graphs (force and acceleration vs. time) with explantions of what part / point are they for.
