Can anyone tell me how the values from Table Y-1 for different temperatures are obtained? Surely they have not tested all the materials at the temperatures in the table.

Yes the test were done. Believe it. Astm, ASME spend a lot of money too come out with results. That's why we pay dearly for lisensing including publications prices reading the sky. Genblr

Over the years, tensile testing and elevated temperature tensile testing has been performed either by ASME or by companies submitting code cases to obtain the tensile values and to determine allowable stress lines.

There is an unbelievable number of man-years involved with the ASME Code. Especially II-D.
