Sulfur Removal System

(OP)
There are many ways to remove sulfur in Oil or Gas production process such as CLAUSS PROCESS, BIOLOGICAL SULFUR RECOVERY UNIT (BSRU), WET SULFURIC ACID, SOLID BED SCAVENGER SYSTEMS, etc.. Can anybody help me to explain the differences among of all process mentioned. and also the advantage/disadvantages, economical, quantity of H2S in sour gas, economical (cost),environmental, and other factors related.

Appreciate your answer and opinion.

Thanks and Regards

RE: Sulfur Removal System

Clauss and wet sulphuric acid processes are not for the removal of sulfur from oil and gases, they are process to convert sulfur already removed from oil and gas into a stream that has a market value. The processes both oxidize the captured sulfur contains molecules into either solid Sulfur, Claus, and sulphuric acid, in the same named process.

Biological processes use the biological chemistry to oxidize sulfur containing molecules into a solid sulfur. The molecules that have sulfur atoms can be mixed with an gas stream. I've not seen this process on an oil stream.

Solid bed or even liquid bed scavengers are just chemical reactions where the molecule with sulfur atoms chemically react, normally an acid base reaction, that creates a salt of sulfur that precipitates out as a solid than can be recovered for use or disposal

Both the biological and scavenger processes are only economical and stream where the mass of sulfur atoms daily is very small and in very low concentrations.
