TTT curves for duplex stainless steel

Does anybody have a source for TTT curves for duplex or super-duplex stainless steels?

   Thanks

RE: TTT curves for duplex stainless steel

bruv,
I am ignorant about this subject except for a thread or two that have appeared here.  I went to ASM Heat Treating Vol and it only lists annealing temperatures for duplex alloys. They are not hardenable by heat treat being a mixture of austenite and ferrite.  No martensite.

So the TTT curves you are seeking must apply to the comment below.

(a) Cooling from the annealing temperature must be rapid, but it also must be consistent with limitations of distortion.

I have put in an RFQ with metalsonline.com for type 329 just for my own edification and once they respond I'll know who supplies it and can ask for a TTT curve.  You can do the same.

I'm assuming that you're looking particularly for the sigma transformation. I would go to AvestaPolarit.com, since they have developed most of these grades and have a good technical website.

I agree with you entirely. It's just that we are being asked by a customer if we have such a thing. I strongly suspect that he has taken a checklist that covers a whole range of (non-duplex) steels and just changed the wording in the appropriate places. For my part, I've yet to see one but if somebody can prove me wrong them this is the place to do it. It will be interesting to see if you get anything back from metalsonline.

Mcguire

Sigma is the usual suspect, but there are also one or two other nasties around. I will have a root around in the Avestapolarit website and see what turns up.

Thanks for the pointers, guys. If I find anything I'll post details here.

Yes, Bruv, the ferrite phase can transform from alpha to alpha prime in classic 885F embrittlement. There are also R phase and chi phase as high temperature intermetallic phases.
