Cohesive element

Cohesive element

Cohesive element

(OP)
Hi,
I am new in Abaqus. I am trying to simulate the crack propagation using cohesive element. I do the simple test with model having 2 element plus a layer made by cohesive element in the middle subjected to tension load. I expect to see "virtually" the crack at the cohesive element layer, but I see nothing.
I also attached that simple model here. Could someone please help me to clarify this> thanks alot
Lisu

RE: Cohesive element

Lisu,
Instead of modeling with tie constraints try a contact pair that references an interaction property that has Mechanical>Cohesive Behavior properties defined. I hope this helps.

RE: Cohesive element

Hi,
Thanks so much for your kind response. I am ok with surface contact interaction. For this, we need to define cohesive behavior and damage evolution. However, in this example, I am trying to use cohesive element that (I think) includes both cohesive behavior and damage evolution in the element itself.
Could some one please suggest me what should I do?
Thanks a lot
Lisu
