Could someone help me with this? How welding affects Charpy test?
Thank you.

RE: Charpy

The Charpy test simply determines the absorbed energy under an impact load. The weld metal, and base metal heat affected zones are metallurgically different than the base metal. Depending on a number of parameters, the weld metal may have superior impact toughness than the base metal OR NOT. The purpose of the Charpy test is to determine those differences and whether welds/weldments would prove safe in dynamic loading service.

Please read Mechanical Metallurgy by Dieter. You can then come back and be more specific. To me it appears, an assignment question.

I'm just one step away from being rich, all I need now is money.
