Part Description abbreviation clarification

Part Description abbreviation clarification

New here, so might not be in the right section, but I need clarification on a description and was looking to you guys since I can probably get a faster response.

the part is a hose/pipeline that carries either steam or water but that's all I know. Can I get some clarification?

ASSY, TFLX,.50,46,F.JIC X .50 MPT

I have multiple parts like this with the only number changing is the '46'. it changes to 39, 33, 32, 86, 79, 14, and 60.

RE: Part Description abbreviation clarification

RJ, you really need to check with the supplier, as they make up their own codes, but if I had to guess, it seems to be a flexible hose assembly - "TFLX" being shorthand for the type of hose, ".50" the hose size, (probably ID in inches), "46" could be length in inches, "F.JIC X .50 MPT" the end connections - female JIC (37deg flared fitting) one end 1/2" male NPT the other. Something like that, but as I said, just my guess.
Cheers,
John

thanks for the clarification JohnGP. I guess my next call is to the supplier.

RE: Part Description abbreviation clarification

Look again very closely: Your MPT is probably a NPT letters.

"IF" it is MPT then you have to be very, very careful to verify that they are Metric Pipe Threads instead of National Pipe Threads!!! One will not fit the former.

racookpe1978 - it does indeed say MPT.

Thanks for the info.

RE: Part Description abbreviation clarification

MPT is a common way to designate "male pipe thread" meaning NPT. I doubt it is meaning metric pipe thread as that wouldn't mix an imperial measure ("0.5") with a metric designation. A metric thread would be shown as something like M12 x 1.75, for example.
Cheers,
John

RE: Part Description abbreviation clarification

I'm hoping that is the case. Otherwise, it would be a hermaphrodite (metric-standard) fitting ...
