Does Code Require Shut-off Ventilation Fans upon FireDetection?

Does Code Require Shut-off Ventilation Fans upon FireDetection?

(OP)
Hello:

I work at a power plant. We have an air compressor high bay space/room where we are having roof mounted ventilation fans installed for the purpose of removing the rejected heat. This is a duct-less installion. My question is whether the installation is required by some code (NFPA) to have fire detection and if upon activation of the fire detection, the fans need to be automatically shut down? Also, upon activation of any newly installed fire (smoke?) detectors do I need to send that signal to the building's fire alarm system?

I expect that all the above is good practice, but is it a code requirement and if so what exact code?

Don't know. What code, what country, what does the authority jurisdiction say?

Opps! Good Point. Plant is located in U.S.A., State of Florida. Would an installation such as this be governed by the local building code? Maybe by the letter of the law, but practice is that the locality does not want to get involved here.

RE: Does Code Require Shut-off Ventilation Fans upon FireDetection?

In general, fans are not a big issue unless over high pile storage. Not a code answer, just a performance based reply. You may want to ask the ahj, or bring in a code consultant to site survey and do an analysis/report. Lot of variables here, so an internet answer can be dangerous.
