Assembly Load Options - NX 7.5 / 8.5

Assembly Load Options - NX 7.5 / 8.5

Assembly Load Options - NX 7.5 / 8.5

(OP)
I was wondering if there is a chart or an area that describes the assembly load options, and how each item (Latest Status, Precie, etc) work. We have been toggling 'Load as Saved' so we ensure we have the latest, but I think with all the other options, we are limiting ourselves. Can anyone direct me to the correct answers? Thank you!

RE: Assembly Load Options - NX 7.5 / 8.5

It is explained in the documentation.

'Load as Saved' does NOT ensure you have the latest! It means you will load the assembly as it was last saved, including an older revision of a part that has changed since the assembly was last saved, assuming you are using part versioning and not connected to a PLM system.

Part versioning is a must to setup and use if you want to be able to load the latest components of any assembly. They work along with the load option 'Load Latest' and search paths. One note about search paths is that NX will load the first instance of a component it finds rthat matches the search criteria, even if there is a newer version in a later folder.

For engineering, we put the WIP folders at the top of the search path. For manufacturing, we put the released foldrs at the top.

Thank You...
But one question... what Documentation?

RE: Assembly Load Options - NX 7.5 / 8.5

Based on the wording of the question, I assume you are using TeamCenter, yes?

RE: Assembly Load Options - NX 7.5 / 8.5

NX comes with a set of documentation that should be loaded. If not, get ahold of your IT or CAD admin. They provide a wealth of information.
You can also try the GTAC website for a copy of the NX assembly manual.

Try one of the following.

The easiest and quickest way to the 'documentation', i.e. NX Help files, is to open any dialog, such as the 'Load Options' dialog, and simply press the 'F1' key.

Or you can go to...

Help -> NX Help...

...and do a search for the topic of interest.

Thank you... I will investigate it.

After looking into this...
I still do not understand all the choices... It is through Teamcenter Integration...

What do all the Part Revisions mean?
If I use Latest by Alpha Revision Order, it will load Baseline items that are not released.

if I use the documentation, it does nto talk about all the options.

RE: Assembly Load Options - NX 7.5 / 8.5

I hope that you have a Teamcenter session as well on your screen...
Then it's quite simple to understand.

When running under Teamcenter you can set up your system to either work "Precise" or "inprecise".
1) When "precise", the assembly will load a specific revision of the component, normally * the same revision of the component as the assembly was saved with. - The assy refers to the item revision. * One can replace revisions in Teamcenter.
Using the "Load as saved" in the NX load options will override the teamcenter structure.

2) when "inprecise" it's the revision rule such as "latest by alpha revision" that dictates which revision of the component is loaded into the session. - The assy refers to the Item and not the Item revision since that is controlled by the revision rule. * Replacing revisions in teamcenter does not exist as action beacuse the same revision rule is used there too.

If you have a Teamcenter session,
Expand an item which contains an assembly , expand the item revision such that all nodes are visible.
Among these there is a "Bom View Revision" icon. ( looks like an schematic assembly structure)
Double click this and Teamcenter will open the Structure Manager and show the assembly structure in the window below.
Tools - Revision rule - View /Set Current
In the window that appears you can see the content of the different rules, and decide which one you should use.

Tomas
