API Tank Vacuum Deformation

API Tank Vacuum Deformation

API Tank Vacuum Deformation

(OP)
A 60' Dia - 70' tall tank got bad deformation due to vacuum. The question is whether or not the tank can return to service. Is any experters could provide your advise?
Thank you in advance

RE: API Tank Vacuum Deformation

Post a number of photos - also data - "deformation size", strength etc, but you need a site visit from a tank repair company to give you options.

My motto: Learn something new every day

Also: There's usually a good reason why everyone does it that way

RE: API Tank Vacuum Deformation

Answer is "It depends". Some large buckles can mostly pop out, but they tend to leave creased areas, so you can't just undo the damage by filling it. Consider evaluation per API-653, not sure right offhand to what extent it addresses that kind of damage.

RE: API Tank Vacuum Deformation

"Bad deformation". Need your definition/description of Bad. I have seen two instances of the same cause of deformation. One occurred during draining after hydrotest. Had to scrap both tanks.

RE: API Tank Vacuum Deformation

"site visit from a tank repair company " Yep.

And it is always repairable, but the price might be too much. The only areas that demand removal are the creases. Popping out dents is just really big automotive body & fender work. Nobody likes to talk about it, but this is a fairly common tank failure. Any experienced tank installation & repair company can fix it. Just watch the costs, especially if you need/want different nozzles or nozz location, or a different size. A big repair makes a new tank look more attractive.
