have a question I can use a material API 5L gr B to qualify welders and welding procedure, and then I would serve for materials used in production API 5L grade X70, as they have the same p No. but different tensile strength,

RE: Material for welder and wps qualification

If I understand the question correctly, you are asking if you can qualify welder and a WPS using API 5L Grade B and use API 5LX 70 for production welding. With the belief that you are usng ASME IX code, and although you did not specify the welding process:

1. You can qualify welders on Grade B and weld X70 for production.

2. If supplementary essential variables DO NOT APPLY, you an use the Grade B WPS to weld API 5LX 70.

If supplementary essential variable DO APPLY, you cannot use the Grade B WPS (P1 Group 1) to weld API 5LX 70(P1 Group 3) as a change in material group is a supplementary essential variable . See ASME IX QW-403.5.

If using API 1104, welders qualified on grade B can weld X70 (within other retrictions shown in Section 6). Again, for API 1104, a WPS qualified on Grade B is not acceptable to use to weld X70.
