Arched Bridge Design

Arched Bridge Design

(OP)
Hello, I am trying to load rate a spandrel filled arch bridge. We are trying to figure out how to design one but cannot find anything in relation to this type of arched bridge. Anyone have any resources or information to give it would be much appreciated. Thanks

RE: Arched Bridge Design

In the BCE (before computer era)days I did a load rating of a filled spandrel arch - 110' clear span and rise of 35' - unfortunately the calculations were shipped to a warehouse. Anyway, if you have a minimum fill of 2' you can distribute the live load as you would for a culvert. Then you come up with a partial uniform live load. However, you have to repeat this at various points across the bridge since the load will vary due to the fill height.

Is this a buried structure? Can you post a drawing?

RE: Arched Bridge Design

Nice looking bridge; similar to the one I did. Can you reveal the location?

No need to design one. Just buy a precast BEBO or CONSPAN system. Look up a company called CONTECH based in West Chester Ohio. I used to work there. Their engineering team will design it for you. If you use the BEBO system, it will look almost exactly like your photo.

RE: Arched Bridge Design

My apology, I didnt realize you were trying to load rate it. I thought you were designing one.

You will need a structure-soil interaction software like CANDE to analyze it.
