Isolation Pads

Hi all,

I need to choose isolation pads for a vibratory bowl feeder, does anyone know the calculation process to choose the right isolation pad ? Thanks

Regards
Lars

RE: Isolation Pads

Hi Greg,

Thanks for your feedback. I know that the manufacturer would be able to guide me in this, however, I would like to know how to calculate and find out which isolation pad would be the best for some of our machinery equipment. If you can tell me i would really appreciate your help. Till now i did my own research and found some good material however, I'm inexperienced in this area so certain things i'm not sure about them. Thanks in advance.

This document is full of formulas however, don't know which should i use to find out the best isolation pad for our machinery to reduce noise and vibration. Link

Regards
Lars

RE: Isolation Pads

You need to know what frequency (or frequency range) your most problematic vibration is, or else you just fit the softest ones you can. This assumes that the vibration is structureborne and then radiates from the floor or the rest of the structure, which may or may not be true, and eliminating that poath may or may not appreciably affect the airborne noise.

The transmissibility equations on P3 are applicable if this theory is correct.

Cheers

RE: Isolation Pads

Hi Lars90s,

Doesn't your other, earlier post say you problem is excessive noise?

RE: Isolation Pads

Thanks Greg. Hi Tmoose, yes its about excessive noise, that's why i would like to know how to do my calculations to find the right isolation pads for the bowl feeders, to reduce vibrations and noise. Do you know any good brands for isolation pads ?

Lars

RE: Isolation Pads

Hi Lars90

I'm not sure some basic stuff has been determined yet. As Greg L pointed out the isolation pads would only help if a significant amount of the "noise" is the result of structureborne vibration from the bowl feeders causing the floor to vibrate and be an effective loudspeaker.

When Kneeling and feeling the floor near the feeders is there perceptible vibration? Depending on the frequency of the noise, the vibration of the panel or object making the noise would feel like a buzz or tingle.

The unaswered frequency questions RE; both vibration and sound would make me most reluctant to apply any treatement or correction. Batting while blindfolded results in very few base hits and fewer home runs.

RE: Isolation Pads

Have you looked at wire rope isolators to dissipate vibration? Again, you need some basic frequency/amplitude data to gain an engineered solution. Otherwise you fall into trial and error solutions. Look at Enidine, they make wire rope isolators for the military.
