Create BOM/ Parts List Help

Create BOM/ Parts List Help

Create BOM/ Parts List Help

(OP)
Hi,

I would like to create a BOM/ parts list. I apologize in advance for not understanding the process, I have searched the web but I have no clue. My biggest problem is dedicating enough learning hours each to this software which amazes me every time I use it. It is so powerful.

I have attached a file. I am using NX8.5.

Thank you

John

RE: Create BOM/ Parts List Help

In order to create a proper 'Parts List' using NX, you really need to be working with an Assembly. Your model consists of separate 'bodies' but NOT Components. That's not how NX works. If each 'body' was it's own Part File, assembled as Components into a single Assembly, with each Component carrying attributes such as description, material, catalog number (if a purchased item), etc. Once you've done that, you can generate an automatic Parts List complete with ID Balloons, tabulated lists including quantifies of each unique component.

Hi John,

Thank you for looking at my file.

Can I create an assembly within NX of those body(s)?

Thank you

John

Yes, look up the 'create component' function in the help files.

NX6

We use this method often in the creation of weldment drawings where we do not have individual component files for all of the various pieces but do require a parts list. I don't know if this method will work in more recent releases.

In the Part Navigator, hover over the "Name" row, RMB and uncheck "Timestamp Order". Your solid bodies should now be listed. Update the Properties of each body, adding CALLOUT and DESC for example (and whatever other properties your parts list is set up for) under the "Attributes" tab and adding a name under the "General" tab. If you have multiples of a body, select all of them and update at the same time as their properties will have to be identical for the parts list to consider them the same item. Go back and re-check "Timestamp Order". You should now be able to add a parts list comprised of the solid bodies in that file.

Hi Cowski,

Thank you for the reply. I did a search and did not find anything.

I have been playing around with the create new component command under Assemblies-Components. Do I select each component individually? To I have to establish a parent/ children relationship?

Thank you for any help you can offer me, I really appreciate it.

John

RE: Create BOM/ Parts List Help

One step that I forgot to add...
Once you have the attributes set on the bodies, you need to edit the levels of the parts list to add the bodies to it (Select/Deselect Subassemblies), then update the list.

On assigning the attributes to the solid body do you have a journal or anything that automates this process? We are looking at doing the same thing. We would like to have the lengths automatically get filled out in the attributes vs having to type all of this in automatically.
