The use of 304/304L dual certified SS material in corrosive environment

The use of 304/304L dual certified SS material in corrosive environment

(OP)
Dear all,

Please see the attachment that 304L showing better corrosion properties than 304.
Question: Will dual certified 304/304L have the same corrosion properties as 304L ?
The reason for this question is to decide whether 304/304L dual certified can be used (to save cost)in a corrosive environment that 304L shall be used.

RE: The use of 304/304L dual certified SS material in corrosive environment

Dual certified materials meet all of the requirements of both grades. Any dual certified material could just as easily have been certified as either/or. So in your case, the 304/304L supplier could have stamped it as 304L only, and you would never have questioned it...

Long story short, it would have the exact same corrosion resistance.

If you had further restricted the material properties for specific corrosion resistance properties (eg. tighter composition requirements than the base 304L spec), it could be a different story.

RE: The use of 304/304L dual certified SS material in corrosive environment

Does your application involve welding of the material? If not, there is probably no real difference in the corrosion resistance between 304 and 304L for most environments.
