Riser tie in and dewatering

Riser tie in and dewatering

Riser tie in and dewatering

(OP)
Hi

This is my first post on the forum so I hope this ends up in the correct area.
I am currently doing an assignment for my masters which concerns the installation of risers and have a couple of questions that I have struggled to answer through my own research.

Firstly, In order to tie in a SCR or Flexible riser to the pipeline is it necessary to lay the riser down with a riser base attached, allowing for connection to the PLEM with a spool? Or can the riser end be easily manoeuvred to the subsea tie in point on the sea floor with ROVs?

Once the riser is tied into both the pipe line and topside, how is it de watered? I am assuming that sea water floods the riser during installation (is this correct?). I am thinking that the riser must be dewatered with nitrogen purging.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
