Requirement of fire retardant cable for 132kV cable

Requirement of fire retardant cable for 132kV cable

Requirement of fire retardant cable for 132kV cable

(OP)
In one of the projects we need to install 132 kV underground cable of circuit length = 600 mtrs. The Consultant’s specification calls for fire retardant cable.

The cable will be installed underground, at a depth of 1200 mm. The cable is exposed for few meters at both ends at the terminations. The Contractor finds it difficult to get a fire retardant cable. Instead of fire retardant cable, he is ready to apply fire retardant coating (like paint). I would like to know your views and experience in this area.

RE: Requirement of fire retardant cable for 132kV cable

An intumescent wrap or paint would be more usual than trying to find fire retardant cable.

Marmite
